Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
This morning we woke up to a dusting of snow on the grass and rooftops. The kids were all excited. Mark took Asher outside on the deck so he could put his feet in it.
This morning we roasted a turkey and made a sweet potato casserole to take to the Gift of Life Transplant House. The Transplant House is a huge old building near the Clinic where families and individuals waiting for or recovering from a transplant can stay. They have volunteers from the community bring in all the Thanksgiving fixings so the guests can feel a little more at home. We wanted to do some sort of service for Thanksgiving and this fit the bill--useful, workable with the little kids and not too hard.
We let Holden and Lili create the Thanksgiving menu for our family. Here is the menu they've picked:
- turkey
- cream soda ("since we've never had it before")
- stuffing (or as Holden called it, "the rice with the parsley")
- sugar cookies with frosting and candy decorations
- french fries (I told Holden I wasn't sure I could make those at home. He replied, "Yes you can. You just walk down the frozen foods aisle and you pick up a package.")
- When prompted for a vegetable they picked carrots and pickles with dip
- Mark added his favorite of green beans with bacon
- Then this morning I decided that sugar cookies just wouldn't completely fill the Thanksgiving treat quota. So on our way home from the Transplant House we picked up a Mrs. Smith's cherry pie.
Plus we are excited about the surprise news that Grandma Brown found a good plane ticket and is coming out on Saturday afternoon to visit for a few days!
