It's been a great house for us, but it's time for a new house. We got an offer last week and our house passed the inspection on Monday, so now it is officially "SOLD". If everything stays on target we are set for a June 6 closing date.
Why the move? It was prompted by wanting more bedrooms and a shorter commute. After scanning the depressing Lake City options (for both renting or buying) we crossed shorter commute off the wanting list.
We didn't want to look for a new place until our existing house sold. Last Saturday we went and looked at several places in-town.
We were planning on going out again today to stare at and endlessly fret (for me at least) which of our 3 top choices would be the best. While walking to pick Holden up from school yesterday I got a phone call from our Realtor, Sue. One of the houses was having lots of activity and had 6 second showings scheduled thanks to it's recent price drop. Sue astutely thought that this one was probably my favorite (and the cheapest) and wanted to keep me informed. After a few phone calls we decided to go for it.
Last night we hurriedly put an offer together (via phone, fax and e-mail since Mark had to be in Lake City until late) on the new house. Around 9:30 p.m. we received word that the sellers had accepted our offer. Yippee! They are finishing up a fellowship here and were excited to sell the house. The new place is two stories, in our current ward, has 5 bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths, a chain-link fence around the entire back yard , no carpet under the dining room table and a 3-5 minute longer commute for Mark but NBD(no big deal).
So if everything passes inspection, financing, blah, blah, blah we are set for a June 6 simultaneous closing on the two homes. It'll make moving tricky but it also avoids the even trickier situation of owning two houses.
